5" Quilt Blocks For those quilters wanting a little more of a challenge, five inch quilt blocks might be the answer -- smaller blocks usually means more blocks to make. Another reason for using five inch blocks is to create a secondary pattern. By using 4 blocks and rotating each of them, you get a different larger quilt block.

Say that you want to make a quilt using 2.5" unfinished squares..you'll cut your squares at 2.5" x 2.5" and once they're sewn into the quilt, they'll finish at 2". So if you are looking to make a baby size quilt, you'll multiply 2" by the number of squares in a row and column and that'll give you the finished size of your quilt.

Monday, January 31, 2022 30+ Charm Pack Quilt Patterns I'm always caught up in the charm of those itty bitty precut 5 inch squares. I love the variety of fabrics and the smaller price tag of charm packs. I have a very hard time not purchasing them if I love the fabric collection.

Cut all the patterned 10-inch squares/ layer cake squares in half. Trim all the white 10-inch squares to 10 by 9.5 inches. (half an inch off one side.) Then cut all the white squares into four 9.5 by 2.5-inch strips. Step 2: Sew Blocks. Sew two random patterned rectangles together, using a scant quarter-inch seam allowance.
